Before going on a weight loss program, it is often advisable to reset the physical mechanisms involving your metabolic processes. The best methods will usually be customized based on your body type and your weight loss goals by a health coach.
How Does a Reset help?
A reset helps to clear your body and prepare it for the weight loss program. Without a reset, the initial stages of the program may be less effective or cause greater discomfort. This could lead to resistance to the program or even failure before it is allowed to be effective. All effective weight loss programs take time. You did not accumulate excess weight overnight, and you cannot lose it overnight either.
The most effective programs require daily goals, with an over-arching long-term goal guiding your food choices, etc. Monitoring your food intake is always advisable maximally effective. Making sure the balance of carbs, proteins, and fats consumed will produce optimal results. By monitoring progress during the program, adjustments can be made to ensure goals and necessary energy and nutrient intake levels continue to be met. This helps avoid burn-out where you may become tired easily or frustrated with the program.
Why Do Programs Fail?
Many programs tend to fail because the weight loss goals can be unrealistic and can lead to early failure or frustration with the speed of weight loss. In reality, the best weight loss programs lead into an understanding that permanent lifestyle changes are imperative, and that healthy weight loss usually happens slowly.
Replacing unhealthy choices with healthier ones is key to prevent the excess weight from returning (I always say, there’s almost always a healthy substitute for ANYTHING). Along the way, it is helpful to remember and imagine what life will be like without the excess weight. How will you feel in a new lighter and healthier version of yourself? How will you reward yourself at major points along the way (and please do not say with a big chocolate Sundae)?
Balance
Making sure the gut is healthy and blood sugar is balanced is high on my list for weight loss. Why? Because gut flora and blood sugar that is out of balance will affect the way we metabolize food efficiently. Hormones soar out of control along with our blood sugar causing the body to create or retain fat that’s almost impossible to get rid of until these issues are addressed.
Once your gut microbes and blood sugar are reset, inflammation is lowered which then, in turn, results in weight or inches lost. Plus, you’ll feel better: more energy, better sleep, and mood are just a few results of maintaining a healthy, balanced body. This is the most stable way to lose weight and keep it off.
