One day it’s “no snacks, only three meals a day”. Another day it’s “snack away”. What’s the truth anymore? Well, it’s 2018 and I’m here to spout some truth for you. Snacks are a go if you know how to do it. They bring amazing things to the table for your diet and health goals. Keep them easy and simple and you’re looking at some serious benefits.
Strike Your Hunger
Snacking is one of the best ways to prevent overeating during actual mealtime. It can become crackers with almond or cashew butter or a small amount of organic cheese and fruit or veggies. Munching on a little “something, something” keeps your energy up and your tummy satisfied so you don’t turn to the dark side of snacking or go overboard with portions come lunch or dinner.
Sugar Who?
Now, just because I’m giving the green light on snacking doesn’t mean it’s a free for all! What do I mean, specifically? Avoid the sugar! If you know me by now, you know what I think of nasty Mr. Sugar. When you nibble on the sweets, your blood sugar level spikes for a brief time then crashes even harder. You’re left feeling grungy and tired AND wanting more. That’s why you toss aside the sugar and hit the proteins and healthy fats. Almonds, organic yogurt, and some veggies are perfect picks! These are all great power snacks due to the complex carbohydrates they carry. No crash, only energy to power through the day.
Nutrients and You-trients!
Nothing wrong with a few extra vitamins in your daily life, right? Fruits and veggies bring on that full feeling for little-to-no calories. I mentioned cheese and yogurt before; those work too! Stuffed with proteins and healthy fat, they bring their own physical boosts like healthier skin and muscles. With the added calcium as well, finding the right snacks set you on the right path to success before supper even rolls around!
It takes a little restraint and a shift in the grocery shopping (don’t ever go when you’re hungry!), but once you get into the groove of light, healthy snacking, you’ll find that your entire day is shifted and you just feel better. Keep your snacks in line with your goals and today you can finally put those pesky rumors about snacking to rest. You’ve got this!
