Sugar cravings are one of the main reasons people have a hard time losing weight and eating healthy. I have had people tell me time and time again how much they wanted to lose weight and get healthy, but they just couldn’t seem to get out from under the control of sugar and other foods.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to eliminate cravings and stay on track to creating more energy, clear skin, weight loss, and so much more!

Cinnamon

Cinnamon naturally helps to balance blood sugar levels and adds a comforting taste to things like tea and coffee. If you plan to use more than 1/2 teaspoon a day, use Ceylon Cinnamon instead of Cassia Cinnamon (what you typically find in most grocery stores); the Ceylon has less coumarin, a natural blood thinner that can be hard on the liver.

Drink Tea

Try drinking herbal teas, especially licorice tea which is naturally sweet; teas are ideal for providing a touch of sweetness alongside delicious flavor.

Exercise

Sometimes the only reason you’re even craving sugar is that your body and brain are addicted to the rush of feel-good hormones. Exercise does the same thing, except it’s MUCH healthier.

Journaling

Feeling emotional and your first instinct is to reach for the ice cream? Try writing in a journal instead. You’ll feel so much better when you get those emotions “out.” Often it’s all that’s needed.

Citrus essential oil

Taking a few deep inhalations of lemon or orange essential oil will provide a jolt of uplifting feel-good hormones, as well as a gentle energy boost.

Take a whole foods multivitamin

Sugar cravings can stem from nutrient deficiencies, and taking a whole foods vitamin supplement can help to address deep-seated nutritional issues and get you back on track to feeling food craving-free.
