Do you find yourself struggling at parties to make healthy eating choices? Not knowing what to eat at these gatherings can be difficult. Parties and especially holiday parties can be filled with delicious, but unhealthy foods. These food choices can be stressful on your body and keep you from having a great time. However, that does not always have to be the case, here are some ways to help you eat healthy and smart!
Portion size is key
When eating at parties, keep portions small! Eat a high-fiber snack before you go to any event so you do not show up starving and end up overeating. Make sure you eat enough to satisfy your appetite, so you do not go home hungry and eat again. When you arrive and you are hungry, THAT’S when you tend to make unhealthy choices.
Veggies over Carbs
Stay more to the veggie options rather than the carb-heavy ones. Walk around and check out the choices you have. Choose the veggie options first and fill up mainly on those. But treat yourself also, do not waste your carbs on empty calories. Instead of sodas and dips choose that sweet treat or carby dish but limit the portion you take. If there is a fruit-filled dessert opt for that to help curb that sweet tooth.
Position is Important
Standing by the appetizer table is a sure-fire way to fall into temptation. Instead, stay where your friends and family are. Being connected to the conversation will help to keep you focused on them and from grazing throughout the party. If everyone around you is eating, try sipping coffee instead, it can help to have something in your hand, taking an occasional sip to help fight the urge to gorge.
While you want to be able to enjoy yourself and the party, that doesn’t mean you need to compromise your healthy eating lifestyle. As you will more than likely be attending multiple events like these you do not want to fall into a bad habit of eating unhealthy.
