Something about a prayer/meditation space just floats my boat. I think we all need a place where calmness is encouraged and stress melts away. Even when you’re spiraling downwards into a bad day, just taking a few moments in your space can make all the difference in the world. Here are some tips on how to create a great space:
Your space should be set apart. And even if you don’t use it to meditate or pray, you can still find comfort there – solitude, peace, inner stillness.
Pick a spot with natural lighting, somewhere that you don’t need to turn on all the lights; somewhere near a window.
If your living space is small, pick a comfy chair, add a soft throw, and call it yours.
Decorate your space, and make it beautiful. Hang nice tapestries, place flowers somewhere nearby, fluff up your pillows, and keep lovely things around at all times. Your space should feel refreshing, bright, and joyous. Use an essential oil diffuser or incense for your space with natural scents that help you feel at ease.
Create a vision board, which is a collection of pictures or inspirational quotes on a board to inspire you. Some people also create a Dream Board, a collection of images that represent your wildest dreams. Hang these in your meditation space to remind you that you’re on your way.
Keep the good vibes in, and the bad vibes out. Vow to make your meditation space a “good vibes” only zone. Don’t ever go there to pout, to complain, or to mull. If you’re having a rough day, this is where you can leave all of that behind and fill yourself with positive intentions.
Don’t use your space for anything but prayer, mindfulness & meditation. You can find somewhere else in your home to eat, or read, or talk to your friends on the phone. Allow your space to be sacred, and pure. Only use it to sit in silence, turning upward or inward, and reflecting.
