Well, we’re knee deep into the new year. That means it’s time to do a little housecleaning, aka check in with those current health goals and say, “Hey how’s it going?” It’s one thing to be heroic and bold at the beginning of the year, with goals and plans to match. It’s a whole ‘nother ball game to hold on tight and see them through!
So that’s what we’re doing today, holding on tight and moving forward with a few ways to get back in the saddle, as needed.
Look Closer
Often, we begin the new year gung-ho and ready to make some magic, but as the weeks trudge on, it’s not so surprising that things get a little tough. It might be time to buckle down a little harder. If you feel you’ve lost track, start journaling out your days, with food and portions included. This is a good reminder of how much you’re taking in versus what your body needs to stay on track.
The Obstacles
Temptation and self-control are the two big rivals you’re facing here. It’s the things you can’t avoid, like offers from friends or those tantalizing snacks just lazing about in plain sight. But here’s an empowering phrase: “No thanks.” Not an easy one to say when first attempted, but through practice, practice, practice, you’ll be a master at laughing at temptations and moving on, feeling more confident with your goals in mind.
The Motivation
This is something I’ve talked about before, but when tough times get you down, my go-to advice will always be to seek the counsel of the folks who know you best. They see you working your butt off to make your butt look good! There’s absolutely nothing wrong with leaning on those who love to build you up. It’s what empowers us to see each other succeed. And that’s an encouraging thought.
Mindset
And speaking of seeking the counsel of those who know you best, are YOU telling yourself good, encouraging things? Studies show your brain listens to your very own voice the most, so watch what you tell yourself, BIGTIME.
Never forget why you set health goals for yourself. You want to see a change that isn’t supposed to happen overnight, but a long-term transformation. It’s a process that takes patience but I promise it’s so, so worth it if it means living a happier, healthier, and longer life. And you’re so, so worth it!
